Apple Unveils 'Apple Intelligence', iOS 18, and More at WWDC 2024
Apple kicked off its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 by unveiling 'Apple Intelligence,' its new personal AI system, alongside major updates like iOS 18 with home screen customization, and macOS Sequoia featuring iPhone mirroring.

Apple's WWDC 2024 keynote delivered a suite of significant software updates, headlined by the introduction of 'Apple Intelligence' – the company's long-awaited push into generative artificial intelligence. This new AI system aims to be deeply integrated across iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, offering features like prioritized notifications, writing tools (rewriting, proofreading, summarizing text), image generation ('Image Playground'), and enhanced Siri capabilities with a better understanding of context and on-screen content. Notably, Apple announced a partnership with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT (GPT-4o) into its operating systems, allowing users to leverage its advanced capabilities for complex queries when needed, with user permission sought before data is shared. iOS 18 itself brings highly requested features like home screen customization (placing apps and widgets anywhere, tinting icons), a redesigned Photos app with better organization, Control Center customization, and the ability to lock or hide apps. macOS Sequoia introduces 'iPhone Mirroring,' allowing users to view and control their iPhone directly from their Mac screen, even while the phone remains locked. Other updates included visionOS 2 for the Apple Vision Pro, watchOS 11 with new health features like 'Vitals' tracking, and improvements to Safari, Notes, and Mail, all infused with elements of Apple Intelligence. The focus was clearly on making AI practical, personal, and privacy-centric within the Apple ecosystem.
