“Phule” Biopic to Release on April 11, 2025 — Honoring a Legacy of Social Reform
Biopic *Phule* releases April 11, 2025, honoring Jyotirao & Savitribai Phule’s legacy.
Mumbai, April 9, 2025 – The upcoming biographical film Phule, directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Ananth Narayan Mahadevan, is all set to hit theaters on April 11, 2025. The release date is a fitting tribute to Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, coinciding with his 197th birth anniversary.
Phule brings to the big screen the powerful and inspiring story of Jyotirao Phule and his wife Savitribai Phule—visionary reformers who were instrumental in championing women's education and uplifting marginalized communities in 19th-century India. The film stars Pratik Gandhi as Mahatma Phule and Patralekhaa as Savitribai Phule, showcasing their extraordinary contributions to India's social awakening.
The narrative traces the couple’s pioneering journey, especially their groundbreaking work in opening India’s first school for girls in 1848. Their efforts to challenge the deeply rooted caste system and fight for gender equality are portrayed with sensitivity and depth, highlighting how their legacy continues to inspire generations.
The official trailer, released two weeks ago, has already stirred strong emotions among audiences, particularly resonating with the Bahujan community. Viewers have praised its heartfelt portrayal of the Phules' courage and resilience in the face of social opposition.
Director Ananth Narayan Mahadevan has emphasized the timeless relevance of the story. “Issues like caste and gender discrimination are not confined to the past—they continue to affect people even today,” he said. “The Phules are not just historical figures; they are symbols of justice and change.”
Phule is produced by Pranay Chokshi, Jagdish Patel, Ritesh Kudecha, Anuya Chauhan Kudecha, Suunil Jaiin, and Dr. Raj Khaware, with co-production by Kranti Shanbhag and Kalapi Nagada. It is a joint venture between Zee Studios, Dancing Shiva Films, and Kingsmen Productions.
As anticipation builds ahead of its theatrical release, Phule promises to be a compelling cinematic tribute to two of India’s most important and revolutionary social reformers—a story of compassion, courage, and the relentless pursuit of equality.
