Met Gala 2025: Indian Stars Illuminate Blue Carpet as Eco-Friendly Runway Returns
The 2025 Met Gala, held on May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, showcased a remarkable fusion of fashion, culture, and sustainability. The event's theme, "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," celebrated Black dandyism and its profound influence on global fashion. In a notable departure from tradition, the iconic red carpet was replaced with a midnight blue one adorned with white and yellow narcissus flowers, symbolizing renewal and spring.
This year's gala also marked the return of the eco-friendly runway, emphasizing sustainability in fashion. Designers and celebrities embraced the theme "Tailored for You," presenting bespoke, environmentally conscious creations that highlighted the artistry and craftsmanship of Black tailoring traditions.
Indian celebrities made a significant impact on the blue carpet, blending traditional elegance with contemporary flair. Shah Rukh Khan made his Met Gala debut in a custom Sabyasachi sherwani, paying homage to the theme while showcasing Indian craftsmanship. Priyanka Chopra, accompanied by Nick Jonas, dazzled in a retro white Balmain outfit paired with a 241-carat emerald pendant, exemplifying the fusion of luxury and sustainability. Kiara Advani, Isha Ambani, and Alia Bhatt also graced the event, each presenting ensembles that celebrated Indian heritage and modern design sensibilities.
